Celebrating a Milestone in Kiwi Conservation
We’re thrilled to share an incredible achievement from our dedicated Friends of Rotoiti team, who recently supported the successful relocation of 11 great spotted kiwi (roroa) to Nelson Lakes National Park. This brings us to the significant milestone of establishing a founding population of 40 kiwi in the park – a goal that’s been nearly two decades in the making.
This project has been a long journey for many involved, with its roots stretching back to the initial planning stages in 2004. The successful translocation is a testament to the persistence, passion, and teamwork of everyone who played a role.
A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who contributed your time, energy, and expertise. It’s been a privilege to work alongside such a committed group – your collaboration, support, and shared dedication made this all possible.
We’re proud of what’s been achieved and excited for the future of kiwi conservation in the region.
