Murray and Lorraine checked Whisky Line on 29 October. Catches remain low- 2 possums, 2 rats and 3 hedgehogs.
There are 5 Timms traps set for feral cats. These are located at 1- trap 127, 2- 50 m down Dip Flat Road on left side, 3- by the 6 mile sign on right side just before 6 Mile Stream, 4- beside loos in the car park at bottom of ski field road, 5- trap 151 on right side.
Wayne and Sim checked Whisky Line on 7 November. All possum traps had new aniseed dowels inserted and cat traps were rebaited. Catches were 7 rats, 2 possums and 1 stoat. The sentinel trap cover at 55 was missing.
A robin visited at trap 66.
Four FOR volunteers - Drew, Warwick, Bryce and Carol cleared the Rainbow Line on 26 November. It was another wet day - so the ski-field road was left for next weekend. The bait was changed in the DOC200s and Sentinels. Over 50 % of the baits were missing. This co-incides with a change from polymer baits to Erayse. Catches have also increased: 4 stoats, 1 weasel , 1 ferret, 2 rabbits, 3 hedgehogs, 3 rats, 1 cat , 1 kitten.
There are a couple of kea nesting in this area - so hopefully the increase in mustelid catch is not a bad omen.
Russell and Wayne checked Whisky Line on Tuesday 22 November. There was a small catch : 4 rats , and the baits were changed to Erayse. There was lots of bird song heard along the track - bellbirds, tui , fantails, robins - but only grey warblers and a tom tit showed themselves.
